Police at Munich airport were surprised to examine a wooden box carried by a 74-year-old passenger, inside which they found human bones that turned out to be those of the woman’s late husband, authorities reported Tuesday.
Customs officials, a doctor and prosecutors determined that no crime had been committed, the German news agency dpa reported.
Questioned by police, the woman and her 52-year-old daughter said they were returning from Greece to their native Armenia via Munich and Kiev.
The mother said that her husband died in 2008 and was buried in Thessaloniki, Greece. She and her daughter resolved to take the remains to Armenia for their final burial, police said.
After the investigation, the two women were able to continue traveling with the remains in the box.
