Spanish Health Minister Salvador Illa announced on Friday a series of new restrictions to combat the outbreak of the coronavirus.

After an emergency meeting with leaders of the autonomous regions, the authorities ordered the closure of discos and nightclubs throughout the country.

Visits to nursing homes were limited to one person per day for one hour. Smoking is prohibited in outdoor places unless you can keep a distance of two meters from others. The police will crack down more harshly on evening gatherings of young people in the streets to drink alcohol, which are prohibited.

The daily number of infections has been increasing steadily since June 21, when three months of quarantine ended.

Almost 50,000 cases have been officially registered in the last 14 days, an average of 3,500 daily cases.
