Ecuador exports 3,247 tons of waste to France


Ecuador exported 3,247 tons of industrial waste generated by the country’s main refinery to France, the state oil company Petroecuador reported on Tuesday.

In a statement, he said that such wastes, mainly caustic soda and chemical derivatives, cannot be processed and disposed of in Ecuador.

The manager of Petroecuador, Pablo Flores, said that after 18 months of preparation work, this export was achieved, at a cost of 7.9 million dollars, and said that “we will continue with all good environmental practices to have an operation more efficient and less polluting ”.

He added that the ship with the cargo of waste left from the port of Esmeraldas and is expected to arrive in France in 22 days, where it will be transported by land to the treatment plant located in Rousillon, which should guarantee the total destruction of the substances and avoid harmful secondary compounds to the environment are formed.
