Hurricane Genevieve reached Category 2 cyclone strength off the Mexican Pacific coast on Monday, and forecasters issued a tropical storm watch for parts of the Baja California Peninsula.

The storm was located on Monday night 360 kilometers (225 miles) south-southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico, according to the National Hurricane Center of the United States (NHC for its acronym in English).

Genevieve had maximum sustained winds of 160 kilometers per hour (100 miles per hour) and was moving west-northwest at 30 km / h (18 mph).

Genevieve is expected to become a Category 3 or greater hurricane on Tuesday, but is not forecast to make landfall, although it will pass near the tip of Baja California Sur on Wednesday night and Thursday.
