Previous governments corrupted whoever was willing to let themselves be bought, assured President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
Referring to the video that shows two people linked to the PAN manipulating bundles of bills, he pointed out that it exposes the prevailing regime of corruption. “This money was used to buy wills, consciences, to buy votes,” he emphasized in his morning conference.
He said those calling for the return of counterweights in Congress by 2021 are actually seeking access to resources of uncertain origin. “Intellectuals linked to the conservative regime spoke of the need to build a front against us. They used the word counterweight. It wasn’t a counterweight, it was the weights, ”he ironized.
Although the video published on social networks has had a profuse diffusion, for López Obrador more play was given to the videos that showed René Bejarano receiving money from businessman Carlos Ahumada.
He insisted that the FGR reveal the content of the evidence provided by Lozoya.
“I would like it to be considered a State matter and for the Prosecutor to report what Mr. Lozoya said, to know the full complaint. Transparency. Let the people know, ”he said.
“The counterweight was weights”
López Obrador affirms that previous governments corrupted whoever was willing to let themselves be bought.
The video released on social networks in which people related to the PAN are observed manipulating large amounts of money confirms that previous governments corrupted whoever was willing to let themselves be bought, assured President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
“This video that is released, quite strong, shows the filth of the prevailing corruption regime, because this money was used to buy wills, consciences, to buy votes,” López Obrador emphasized at a press conference at the National Palace.
He acknowledged that there is no certainty that this video is part of the evidence provided by the former director of Petróleos Mexicanos, Emilio Lozoya, in the process against him carried out by the Attorney General’s Office.
The head of the Executive established that those who ask for the return of counterweights in Congress in 2021, actually seek to have access to this type of resources of uncertain origin.
“According to Mr. Lozoya, part of this money was used for the approval of the Energy Reform.
“Well that was the counterweight. It was not a counterweight, it was the weights ”, the President ironized.
Although the video uploaded to social networks has been widely disseminated, the President said that the videos in which his former private secretary, René Bejarano, was observed receiving money from the businessman Carlos Ahumada were more widely disseminated.
He insisted that the Attorney General’s Office disclose the content of evidence provided by Lozoya in his process.
“I would like it to be considered a matter of State and for the Prosecutor’s Office to report what Mr. Lozoya said, to know the complete complaint, and to know if this is the video or another. Everything that the Prosecutor’s Office has. Transparency. Let the people know, “he said.
He reiterated that the Foreign Ministry and the Attorney General’s Office have the task of seeking the return of assets and resources located in the United States, as a result of corruption in Mexico.
López Obrador insisted that the former presidents could be tried for corruption if so decided in a citizen consultation.
President calls not to make summary judgments
Before the broadcast of a video in which the former private secretary of the governor of Querétaro, Francisco Domínguez, is observed receiving money allegedly of illicit origin, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador asked not to make summary judgments against those involved.
The video shows Guillermo Gutiérrez Badillo, who until a few days ago was the private secretary of the Queretaro governor, receiving bags full of money.
“It is not for me to judge. That’s why the Prosecutor’s Office is here.
“You cannot accuse anyone or convict anyone without evidence, without a judge declaring an alleged criminal guilty,” the President explained at a press conference.
During the conference, he asked that the video broadcast on social networks be played on the support screen.
He acknowledged that Domínguez took actions to dissociate himself from what was exposed in the video by immediately firing Gutiérrez Badillo.
The money displayed would have been used by executives of Petróleos Mexicanos to approve the Energy Reform in the previous administration.
“That’s why I think the video is true, because he made the decision to fire one of the people who appear in this video.
“It is not to make a summary judgment, a political lynching. We have to wait and see this with great responsibility and depth ”, declared López Obrador.
The head of the Executive will begin this Wednesday a three-day tour of Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas and Aguascalientes.
Tomorrow he will participate in a meeting with the National Conference of Governors, in San Luis Potosí.
Criticize tax havens
To combat corruption, all the countries of the world must report the origin of resources that are deposited in banks within their territories, said President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
At a press conference, the head of the Executive pointed out that countries such as Switzerland and others known as tax havens must rethink their policies for receiving resources in their banking systems.
“I respect very much the anonymity that is kept in Switzerland on those who deposit or on the so-called tax havens, but that shouldn’t exist. In international law it should be established that the origin of the money be known, ”said the president.
López Obrador established that there are countries like Mexico that are looted by politicians and businessmen, who take those resources to countries that do not require clarifying the origin of the money.
He considered this policy to be immoral.
“In other words, how does money go from a looted country to a tax haven and nothing happens, and is it normal?” And there are countries that even live off that. That is immoral ”, sentenced the President.
