The Major League Baseball suspended US pitcher Ian Gibaut for three games on Tuesday, of the Texas Rangers, for a dangerous pitch against Manny Machado, of the San Diego Padres.
Following a bases-loaded homerun by fellow Dominican Fernando Tatis in the Padres 14×4 win on Monday, Gibaut apparently retaliated against Machado, the batter below, with a launch that hit the Dominican’s body.
The manager of the Rangers, Chris Woodward, also received a one-game suspension, Major League Baseball (MLB) said in a statement.
The 26-year-old Gibaut’s suspension will begin Tuesday. The Texas team pitcher is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in 11 appearances this season.
Tatis, who leads the MLB at 21 with 11 home runs, drew the ire of the Rangers by hitting a bases loaded seven-run lead in the eighth inning.
Both Gibaut and pilot Woodward were fined, but the league did not disclose the amount.
