‘Vaccine must be universal and for all’, demands the Pope

The pontiff said that in addition to fighting covid-19, the world has an obligation to deal with a great virus: that of social injustice, inequality of opportunities, marginalization and the lack of protection of the weakest.

He Pope Francisco warned today that the rich people should not take priority for get vaccinated against him coronavirus.

The pandemic is a crisis. You don’t come out of it the way you came in: better or worse, ”Francisco said in an impromptu addition to his speech during his weekly public audience.

We must come out better (from the covid-19 pandemic), he added.

After the pandemic, He said Dad, he world can’t go back to normal yes normal is the social injustice and the degradation of the natural environment.

How sad it would be if they gave priority for the vaccine against covid-19 to the wealthiest, “he said.

It would be sad if this vaccine became the property of this or that nation instead of being universal and for everyone, ”he said, without mentioning a particular country.

It would also be scandalous, he said, if all the public aid in the pipeline, mostly publicly funded, served to revive industries that don’t help the poor or the environment.

The pandemic has exposed the difficult situation of the poor and the great inequality that reigns in the world, ”the Pope said in his speech.

And the virus, although it does not make distinctions between people, has encountered enormous inequalities and discrimination in its devastating path (…) and has increased them ”, he declared.

Francisco considered that the response to the pandemic must be twofold. On the one hand, “it is essential to find a cure for a virus so small but so tremendous that it has brought the whole world to its knees.”

On the other hand, he added, “we must deal with a great virus, that of social injustice, inequality of opportunities, marginalization and the lack of protection of the weakest.”

Noting that many are eager to return to normality and resume economic activity, Francisco said that “this ‘normality’ should not include social injustices or environmental degradation.”

Today we have the possibility to build something different. For example, we can develop an economy of integral development of the poor and not of social welfare ”, said the pontiff.
