Operational definition of COVID-19

The Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell, reported that after meeting the National Committee for Epidemiological Surveillance, a change was established in the operational definition of COVID-19 with the purpose of increasing “sensitivity”, that is, the probability of correctly detecting one with the disease.

For this, some of the “accessory” symptoms were included, such as loss of smell, taste, diarrhea, and in the new definition it is enough to have one condition, instead of two, such as fever, cough, sore throat and headache.
