Community organizations of the CISSS Montérégie-Center will receive financial assistance totaling $ 4,548,168 to cover their shortfall in self-financing for the period from March 13 to September 30. The Minister for Health and Social Services, Lionel Carmant, made the announcement on August 13.
In total, the government will distribute $ 70 million to national and regional community organizations. To divide the amounts, an analysis of the 2018-2019 financial statements of 152 national organizations and 3,476 regional organizations was carried out. The health and social service establishments will be responsible for distributing the amount among the organizations in their respective territories.
This financial support is intended for organizations admitted to the Support Program for Community Organizations (PSOC) for the support of the global mission which have maintained their activities or wish to resume them.
“I am proud to announce this assistance,” says Carmant. Community organizations provide essential services in our society. They do remarkable work with our most vulnerable populations. The pandemic that struck Quebec did not spare them financially. ”
The objective of this assistance is to avoid service disruptions to particularly vulnerable clienteles and to avoid the closure of certain organizations essential to the well-being of the population. It also aims to compensate for the loss of income linked to the pandemic, in particular due to the cancellation of fundraising activities and the considerable drop in donations received. (KH-P.)
