MEXICO CITY.

Jacob Blake, the young African-American who was shot in the back by a police officer in Wisconsin, says that it “hurts to breathe” and that he has constant pain in a video message recorded from his bed in the hospital where he is recovering.

Despite his injuries, which are highly likely to render him crippled from the waist down, Blake told his fans that “there is much more life to live.”

“They can take your life like this [chasquido de dedos], man, and not just your life, your legs – something you need to move and continue life, “says Blake in the video posted Saturday by his attorney Ben Crump.

Dressed in his hospital gown, Blake says he has staples on his back and stomach.

“Twenty-four hours, 24 hours I have pain, just pain,” he said.

“It hurts to breathe, it hurts to sleep, it hurts when you turn around, it hurts to eat,” he says in the video, which has been viewed more than 400,000 times on Twitter.

“Please, I tell them, change your lives out there. We can be together, make some money, make everything easier for our people out there, man, because so much time has been wasted.”

The 29-year-old was wounded by a policeman who shot him seven or eight times as he was about to get into his car, in which three of his children were, on August 23 in Kenosha, in the state of Wisconsin.

The action was videotaped by passers-by and the two police officers who tried to arrest Blake have been suspended.

Three months after George Floyd’s death, the shooting at Blake has sparked a new wave of demonstrations in several cities.

The Kenosha protests began peacefully the night Blake was shot but the violence escalated on successive nights.

On August 25, two people died in the demonstrations. A 17-year-old white youth, a follower of Donald Trump, was arrested and charged with the killings.

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden spoke with Blake on the phone Thursday and met with his family.
