At the beginning of the 2020-2021 electoral process, the presiding counselor of the National Electoral Institute (INE), Lorenzo Córdova Vianello, warned that among the challenges to be faced are intolerance of criticism, hate speech and polarization.
“Today begins the electoral process that will be a watershed. We are presented with a dilemma: either the strength of democracy is endorsed or the degradation of public life is accelerated,” he said.
The National Electoral Institute (INE) kicked off the 2020-2021 electoral process.
With a ceremony to honor the flag, the President of the INE, Lorenzo Córdova, led the honors of the flag, which begins the largest electoral process, so far, in the history of Mexico.
In the INE facilities and with the presence of all the councilors, all wearing the mask, the ceremony was held.
Lorenzo Córdova indicated that facing 2021, there are many challenges to face in the current context: inequality, poverty, femicides, insecurity, intolerance of criticism, among others.
“But the main challenge,” he added, “is to test the consistency of democracy.”
At 10:00 hours a General Council session is scheduled.
