Russian Daniil Medvedev, a 2019 US Open finalist, easily defeated American Frances Tiafoe on Monday in three sets and advanced to the quarterfinals of the New York Grand Slam.
Medvedev, second seed, defeated Tiafoe, number 82 in the ATP, 6-4, 6-1 and 6-0 in one hour and 37 minutes of play on the track Arthur Ashe, the main one of the Flushing Meadows tennis complex.
Medvedev will play in the quarterfinals against the Russian Andrey Rublev, who previously beat the Italian Matteo Berrettini by 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 and 6-3.
At 24 years old, Medvedev aims to take advantage of Novak Djokovic’s disqualification to lift his first Grand Slam tournament.
