Organizations Action Fund CHIRLA and the Immigrant Power PAC announced their first endorsement in a presidential election, selecting the pair of the former vice president Joe biden and the senator Kamala harris (California).
The organization justified its decision by considering that in the process of November 3, there is “a lot at stake” for migrant communities and communities of color.
“We choose decency over meanness, inclusion over racism, democracy over plutocracy”they pointed out. “All the years of organizing, walking through districts, speaking and listening to Latino voters has led to a critical and historic moment in which immigrants are mobilizing and ready to cast their vote, exercising their power for a long time.”
The organization rated the government of the president Donald trump as “four years of indifference and incompetence” about the migrant community.
“Our community is ready to signal its choice for an administration that is willing to work for all who live and contribute to this nation.”, expressed Angelica Salas, President of the CHIRLA Action Fund.
Senator Harris celebrated the support for the Democratic campaign and highlighted the origin of her migrant family.
“As the daughter of immigrants from India and Jamaica, I have seen and experienced the promise of America first hand. Joe and I will fight to restore immigrant rights, keep families together, protect DREAMers, and prioritize legislation that will provide a path to citizenship.“, He assured.
Harris said he recognized the importance of the Latino community in the electoral process, in addition to highlighting the work of CHIRLA.
“CHIRLA is a tireless advocate for immigrant communities across the country and we look forward to working with them to restore dignity and justice to our immigration system,” he insisted.
