As the offseason approached, Raphaël Kiopini took the wheel again at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park during the last weekend. It was aboard Formula 1200 # 45, prepared by the Toronto team Vallis Motor Sport, that he collected three podiums.
Kiopini first set the second fastest time in the qualifying session on Saturday morning.
“The credit goes to the team since I had a car that was very efficient. I had no difficulty adapting to the new settings of the car ”, he testified.
The 19-year-old athlete demonstrated his talent, placing third on the podium in each of the weekend’s events. The podium was at his goal. “We were aiming for the podium and we were successful. I was in constant battle for second position. For the third race, I decided to play smart to keep my podium instead of risking the stakes at the end of the race, ”adds the adopted Trifluvien.
Now back in Quebec, the young man is currently turning to the training halls when he could well be back on track at 1er until October 4 to conclude his single-seater season. “I came back Monday morning and Monday night I was at the gym. I want to drive and perform, especially since I have fun doing what I’m doing now. ”
While this season is not even over, Kiopini now finds himself in the midst of negotiations with teams at higher levels for the 2021 season which may well be the key to his single-seater journey.
“We are already in 2021 mode. The offseason is shaping up to be very busy for me heading into the next season, although I will keep my eyes on the next race weekend,” he concludes. (JC)
