An armed group burned about 10 homes and stole about 200 cattle this Tuesday morning in the community of El Durazno, in the mountains of the municipality of Coyuca de Catalán, in the Tierra Caliente region.
According to a report from the State Attorney General’s Office, men armed with high-powered rifles and dressed in military-style clothing stormed El Durazno and burned all ten houses.
The armed men set fire to the homes of the Chávez, Torres and Napoleón Torres families, who were murdered last August.
In July 2018, in this same community there was a shootout between the residents and an armed group, where nine people died.
In the Tierra Caliente region, according to official reports, since 2019 the criminal organizations the Familia Michoacana and the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) have maintained a dispute.
This dispute is concentrated in the municipalities of Coyuca de Catalán and Zirándaro, which have caused dozens of murders, disappearances and forced displacement of hundreds of families.
