Sheinbaum is questioned for removal of statue of Christopher Columbus in CDMX

The local PAN deputy, Federico Döring Casar, accused that the head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, follows the orders of Andrés Manuel López Obrador to the letter, “especially in relation to his occurrences.”

Proof of this, he said, is that this week the statue of Christopher Columbus on Paseo de la Reforma was removed, an act that coincided with the commission that Mrs. Beatriz Gutiérrez had in Europe.

“The City should not be distracted by the absurdities of the President, but rather be focused on his problems, such as the executions that occurred in recent days and the worsening of security due to floor charges, among many other issues,” demanded the PAN.

In this sense and on “the weekly occurrences”, of which Döring Casar keeps a count, now it was the removal of the statue, which “curiously” coincided with the trip of the President’s wife, the popular representative said with irony.

“It is not congruent that the local government has stolen the ancestral monument and part of the history of the country, without notice or consultation or in-depth detail, even more so when it is executed at dawn. Who are they hiding from or why the fear?” questioned the legislator.

Given this, he asked Claudia Sheinbaum to inform the local Congress why the statue was removed during the early morning, what type of rehabilitation work it will have, the time and, also, once these works are completed, if the figure will be reinstalled in its place habitual.

“We don’t want them to come again to surprise us with changes of place and to send it to any corner of the City. Enough of weekly occurrences. This new one beat the previous one, with that of renaming the streets or neighborhoods linked to former former government leaders, “he sidelined.

For this reason, he insisted on his call to Sheinbaum Pardo that “he has to take care of the City, of the underlying issues. We demand that he clearly indicate how long the restoration of the statue and its relocation in the same space will take,” he reiterated .

In addition, Döring Casar emphasized that Clauda Sheinbaum, “must try to get rid of his boss (Andrés Manuel) López Obrador, and feel the autonomy that the investiture of the central government gives him,” he emphasized.
