Police officers from the Sûreté du Québec will carry out a major road safety operation this afternoon and in the evening on Highway 40 between Montreal and Quebec.
About sixty police officers will be present on this major road axis which connects the two most populous cities of the province. During this visibility operation, the police will ensure that motorists respect the Highway Safety Code and the Criminal Code in order to avoid risky behavior. The Sûreté du Québec wishes, with this operation, to increase the safety of road users.
Police officers will intervene based on the main causes of collisions, namely speed, cell phone use while driving and driving impaired by alcohol and drugs. The police will also pay particular attention to the wearing of seat belts.
Note also the participation of Contrôle Route Québec in this operation.
Thus, the police presence, interventions and awareness of drivers will be increased on this road axis. Large-scale road safety operations are an efficient way to carry out multiple interventions simultaneously with the aim of reducing the number of collisions and saving lives, says the SQ.
