Alfonso Durazo leaves the Secretariat of Security with 2,289 murders in October

Missing this day and Saturday for the end of the month, add 2 thousand 289 murders in the country and it is very likely that the 2 thousand 315 registered in September will be exceeded, according to the records of the daily count prepared by the federal security cabinet.

On average 78.9 intentional homicides have been committed during October, according to the statistics that are delivered daily to the president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, at the meeting of the security cabinet at the National Palace.

Guanajuato, where the criminal group “El Marro” and the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel fight a battle for territorial control, this month remains the most violent entity, with 351 violent deaths. In its place is the State of Mexico, 226; Michoacán, 209; Baja California, 124.

At the moment, October 11 and 5 remain the days with the most murders of the month, with 114 and 102, respectively.

Taking into account that these figures present a substation of 20%, it is estimated that the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System reports over 3,000 victims of intentional homicide during October, which would represent the tenth month with more than 3,000 murders so far in the government of the president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

During Durazo Montaño’s administration, who coordinated the security cabinet, the highest number of violent deaths was recorded so far this six-year term, with 3,111, in March of this year, and the second highest since it has been registered, according to statistics from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System.

The Sonoran leaves the mark of nine months with more than 3,000 murders, between December 2018 and August 2020, against the three that were counted throughout the Peña administration.

In October 2019, when the term of six months that President López Obrador set himself in April of that year, in Veracruz, to reduce violence, Durazo Montaño estimated that “a turning point in the level of growth in the trend of malicious crimes “.

At the same time that the figures in the National Palace stood out, 13 state police from Michoacán were killed in an ambush by the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) in the municipality of Aguililla, one of the most violent attacks against the uniformed.

Despite the stagnation at high levels of homicidal violence in the country, the former head of the SPPC stated in March 2020 that the security strategy followed is correct to reduce intentional homicides.

“We obviously cannot be satisfied with these results, but it allows us to confirm that the strategy is correct to decrease intentional homicide.”

In July of last year, Durazo Montaño said that in the middle of the six-year term (2021) there will be “reasonable peace and quiet” in the country, derived from the drop in crime rates.

“We estimate in the middle of the six-year term to have reasonably returned peace and tranquility to the country and leave a country in peace by 2024,” he said.

“We are sure that with the National Guard we will advance in the successful fight against crime in our country,” he said.

And he warned: “The problem of insecurity was not created overnight nor will it be solved overnight we couldn’t solve it with the Federal Police. If it could have been resolved with the Federal Police, we would not have reached the levels of insecurity that we are today. “

For Durazo Montaño, intentional homicides should not be the only parameter to measure the government’s results in the field of public security.
