The Ministry of Health of Mexico reported this Friday of 6,000 new infections of COVID-19 for an accumulated of 918,811 cases while the deaths reached 91,289 with 516 notified in the last 24 hours.
In the balance of the pandemic in the country, percentage increases of 0.65% in infections and 0.56% in deaths were confirmed, always contrasted with the figures of the previous day, the health authorities said.
Since the start of the pandemic at the end of February, 2,386,284 patients with signs and symptoms of the coronavirus have been studied in Mexico and who had a positivity rate of 42%, confirmed the general director of Health Promotion, Ricardo Cortés.
Among the group of patients studied, there are 918,811 who had a positive for the viral infection, 1,110,937 with a positive result and 356,536 still remain as suspected cases.
The health authorities classify suspicious cases into those that do not have a sample (183,367), those that there is no possibility of having a result (100,454) and those that do wait to know the diagnosis of their test (72,715).
The Mexican official pointed out that the health authorities currently have 15,131 suspicious deaths that are classified as those without a sample (10,479), those that will not have a diagnosis (4,174) and those that can (478).
The authorities’ projections suggest that in Mexico there are currently 1,068,915 estimated cases, a figure that is obtained by adding the positives plus the percentage of suspects (42%) who are thought to test positive.
Cortés pointed out that 5% of the estimated cases, corresponding to 52,955, represent the active epidemic in the country, being patients who developed their symptoms in the last fourteen days.
In addition, it reported a hospital occupancy of 12,329 beds in hospitals, which is equivalent to 33% of the total availability of the country’s health system.
COVID-19 has established itself as the fourth cause of death in Mexico, behind heart disease, diabetes and malignant tumors, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
Days of mourning
The Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell, recalled that starting tomorrow a period of three days of national mourning (Saturday, Sunday and Monday), decreed by President López Obrador, will be entered, therefore The coronavirus conference will be suspended until Tuesday, November 3.
