Carson Wentz threw a pair of touchdown passes to overcome four turnovers, Rodney McLeod returned a fumble 53 yards for a touchdown and The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Cowboys 23-9 on Sunday from Dallas.
A couple of teams with two wins competing for the lead of the mediocre NFC East Division in Week 8, they put on an awkward display more suited to a preseason game than primetime.
The Aguilas (3-4-1) took control of the division with their second win in a row. Dallas (2-6) fell for the third game in a row.
The Dallas Rookie Ben DiNucci, James Madison’s seventh-round draft pick, was sacked four times and lost two balls. in his first NFL start. He completed 21 of 40 shipments for 180 yards.
Wentz threw two interceptions and lost two fumbles, but his nine-yard touchdown pass to Travis Fulgham in the third quarter gave Philadelphia a definite advantage.. Wentz found Jalen Reagor for the two-point conversion that made it 15-9.
Dallas reached the Eagles’ 21 yard and with the opportunity to take advantage in the fourth quarter, but TJ Edwards captured DiNucci and caused the fumble. McLeod recovered the ball and ran for 53 yards to move the score 21-9.
DiNucci started because Andy Dalton was unavailable due to a concussion and Dak Prescott fractured his ankle at week 5.
Boston Scott set a career high by rushing 70 yards for the Eagles. Wentz completed 15 of 27 attempts for 123 yards.
Greg zuerlein hit a 59-yard field goal to give Dallas a 9-7 lead at halftime. Zuerlein also landed a pair of 49-yard kicks in the first half.
