The City of Trois-Rivières issues a notice of deterioration on the Sainte-Madeleine church, in Cap-de-la-Madeleine.
This notice of deterioration indicates that “the building is in a state of insalubrity and danger such that it involves risks for the safety of citizens”.
This follows the Regulation respecting the sanitation and maintenance of residential, conventual and worship buildings adopted at a public meeting of the municipal council last July.
The notice of deterioration of the Sainte-Madeleine church allows the City to publish everything in the land register. “Any lender can see the deterioration of the building. Notice will be lifted when repair work is done. We hope that this will encourage the owner to do the necessary renovation work on the building, ”explains Annie Pagé, director of legal services at the City of Trois-Rivières.
For the moment, the City specifies that it is not at the point of considering the demolition of the church and would rather prefer that a potential buyer be able to acquire the building knowingly.
Remember that the Sainte-Madeleine church was sold in 2013 at a cost of $ 425,000 in order to build condos there. However, the project never saw the light of day and the building has deteriorated since, without being the subject of maintenance work on the part of the owners.
