After the pantheons were closed on the Day of the Dead festivities and hundreds of families were unable to attend, the Ecatepec government placed about two tons of marigolds in the graves.
Thus, a good part of the tombs of the San Efrén municipal cemetery were dressed in orange with the cempasúchil flowers, which personnel from the Public Services Directorate distributed in the cemetery.
Jesús Roldán Tapia, director of municipal Public Services, reported that the pantheon was decorated with cempasúchil flowers to commemorate the Day of the Dead, due to the fact that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, visits were suspended to avoid crowds of people and possible infections.

We gave priority to the nearly 500 graves of minors, in attention to their families. Perhaps the measure of suspending visits was sad and painful, not being able to place flowers on the graves of their relatives. So we assume that responsibility ”, he added.
The suspension of visits to cemeteries, agreed by the council, was carried out from October 31 to November 2, to prevent the increase in deaths from coronavirus in the municipality and to ensure that the epidemiological traffic light remains orange in Ecatepec.
The municipal government administers the ancient pantheons of San Cristóbal, San Efrén and San Isidro Atlautenco, while another nine cemeteries are in charge of authorities of the native peoples and two others are private, which remained closed to avoid crowds during the Day of Dead
