Eye of the Tiger Management will once again storm the city of Rimouski, on November 21, to present the first duels of its tournament entitled “Le Carré d’As”. The event will also feature the Trifluvien Simon Kean facing Stan Surmacz.
Kean will have to be patient, he who would have preferred a world championship fight against Tyson Fury. Yves Ulysse jr. (18-2, 9 K.-O.), Mathieu Germain (18-1-1, 8 K.-O.), Steve Claggett (28-5-2, 18 K.-O.) and David Théroux (16-3, 11 K.-O.) will also be in action in the Bas-Saint-Laurent.
Le Trifluvien will take care of the final of the gala. His fight will be a very important one in his career as the NABA heavyweight title will be at stake.
“We would like to add this belt to Simon (Kean’s) prize list since it will allow him to return to the world rankings. We would therefore have two major North American titles, his and that of Arslanbek Makhmudov. This will allow us to occupy a place of choice in the world stage among the heavyweights ”, underlined the president of EOTTM, Camille Estephan.
“We are happy to be able to put forward this tournament in the city of Rimouski once again. It is important for us that this boxing card be held in Quebec following our last gala, which turned out to be a great success in terms of compliance with the sanitary requirements of Public Health, ”he added.
From the first edition of the Carré d’As, fans will see two excellent technicians compete in Junior Ulysses and Mathieu Germain in a very intriguing battle where the titles NABF and WBC FRANCOPHONE will be at stake. In addition, David Theroux will face the indefatigable Steve claggett in a NABA championship fight.
These rivalries will take place over a period of one year where all the boxers will face each other at least once. The qualification procedures during the Carré d’As turn out to be simple since a scoring system is awarded according to the results of each fight. However, a victory by K.-O. or by unanimous decision is equivalent to three points. On the other hand, a triumph by split decision gives the winner two points. In the case of a fight judged null, the combatants deserve only one point whereas a defeat gives none.
“In addition to their respective purses, the pugilists who take part in the Carré d’As will benefit from a considerable advancement in the world rankings to get closer to a world championship fight. In addition, many belts will be at stake and a bonus of $ 50,000 will be awarded to the winner of the competition. The boxers therefore all want to win this tournament ”, for his part mentioned the vice-president of EOTTM, Antonin Decarie.
Other fights are also planned, namely those of Raphael Courchesne (8-0, 3 K.-O.) and Josh Wagner (6-0, 5 KOs) will play their perfect record in what is shaping up to be a six-round trench warfare. The heavy weight Adam Dyczka (2-0, 1 KO.) will also be on this card as he makes his comeback against the British Columbian, Jaye Byard (0-1), in a duel of four assaults.
