In order to provide safe mobility options in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, Sedatu this year builds three comprehensive avenues with bike lanes in Chiapas, Veracruz and the State of Mexico as part of the so-called new normality.
In an interview with Excelsior, Román Meyer Falcón, head of the Ministry of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu), announced that this strategy is part of the Urban Improvement Program, which in 2020 has a budget of five billion euros. pesos and an additional investment of 25 billion pesos within the economic reactivation strategy, which includes the last quarter of this year and the first quarter of 2021.

“We promote bicycle lanes as a mechanism, a mobility alternative that reduces the chances of contagion, and exercising is not bad at all.
“On many occasions what we do is that we connect the projects with other equipment that we are carrying out; that a bike lane passes outside a sports car and in turn connects with one of the main arteries that take you to the center of the city, “he explained.
Las Guacamayas Stadium
Meyer Falcón highlighted that in 2020, 31 sports spaces will be built or remodeled in the states of Baja California, Campeche, Chiapas, the State of Mexico, Guerrero, Jalisco, Oaxaca, Tabasco, Veracruz and Yucatán.
He explained that in the State of Mexico and Tabasco, it is where more projects of this type are carried out with 8 and 7 respectively.

“We do not investigate how the municipalities themselves give concessions for the use of their equipment, Sedatu does not carry out this investigation, rather we detect that there is a real need.
“This sports center was also crossed by surveys that we did in the field with the communities. We cannot make a team without the prior process of going with the municipalities and the cabinet uprisings and then in the territory, so that there is a match; we have to cross the need of the municipality with the need of the population and if we see that both coincide then we prioritize this type of project, “he said.
