At least 19 people died in different events when they were trapped inside their homes, dragged by mud and stones and by the current of a river after the heavy rains caused by the ETA depression, reported Civil Protection of Chiapas.
Meanwhile, Governor Rutilio Escandón announced that the damage figures caused by the rains of cold front number 11 and ETA add up to 2,845 homes, in 26 highway sections, two damaged bridges, 26 highway sections interrupted by a landslide, the overflowing of five rivers and isolated communities.
Regarding the fatalities, 10 were found on the river that runs through the Kaomtealhucum II community, Chenalhó municipality; the deceased people are originally from the Muquém community, municipality of Chamula. The victims were sleeping when they were surprised by an avalanche; children, youth and adults died at the scene.
In Oxchuc, a person died after being carried away by the current. Four more people were reported as deceased in the Altagracia community, municipality of El Bosque. On the other hand, in the Toquín de La Grandeza community, two adults were injured and four people died.
There are people housed in different temporary shelters in the state.
The Preliminary Register of Damages to Emergencies and Disasters (Repdaed) announced that, derived from increases in river levels and overflows, slopes and mud flow, there are impacts in 32 municipalities located in 12 regions, including Ocozocoautla and La Concordia, among others.
