When forecasting that the city of Villahermosa, Tabasco, will not be flooded because it has stopped raining, the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador assured that there are sufficient resources to attend to all those affected by the floods generated in his native state in the last weeks.

From the Villahermosa boardwalk and in the company of the entity’s governor, Adán Augusto López Hernández, the president of Mexico said that although the Natural Disaster Fund (FONDEN) no longer exists, people can be sure that no one who needs support will stay without the backing of the government.

“The government has to pay special attention to those who need it most, that is justice, and although FONDEN no longer exists, they used it to buy equipment, to buy furniture in times of flooding – there was a lot of corruption in the management of that fund — we have many resources from the national budget to support all those who need it, “he highlighted in a video released this Sunday on his social networks.

He also announced that next Tuesday, November 10, he will lead a meeting in the national palace with the governors of Chiapas and Tabasco and members of his cabinet to design and choose the strategy to put an end to the floods in the Mexican southeast.

López Obrador said that floods are a problem that has been going on for decades and due to the lack of desoiling in the main rivers of Tabasco and Chiapas.

In addition to having allowed irregular settlements in the lower areas of this territory.

“We are going to look for a fundamental, structural solution, especially that the rivers are dredged because they are muddy and that is why the water stagnates a lot, we are talking about decades without desoling of the rivers, that is why there are plugs and it is a pot, no only what rains in the sierra in Chiapas, but what rains in the plains has no possibility of leaving the water through the mud of the rivers, “he explained in the message.

The president insisted to those affected that the first thing is to save lives “because the material is recovered” and for that there are already members of the Ministry of Welfare in the state, to carry out the corresponding censuses and help those affected by the rains.

Before giving the floor to the governor, the president stressed that in the next few hours the csufal of the Usumacinta river will be able to rise due to the lowering of the water from the mountains, but the situation will be controlled in Villahermosa.

For his part, the governor of Tabasco pointed out that at the moment the most difficult situation prevails in Macuspana, hence the request for the army and the navy to remain in order to support Civil Protection actions.

I also trust that as the rains decrease in the last hours, the situation in the state capital and other low-lying areas such as Nacajuca, Cunduacán and Jalpa will remain under control; while in Teapa and Tlacotalpan the situation will normalize in the coming days.

Governor López Hernández is confident that the “climate of a truce” will be able to safeguard human lives.
