Former legislator arrested for selling positions in CDMX government

The Attorney General’s Office (FGJ-CDMX) arrested Edith Ruiz Mendicuti, a former local PRD deputy for Iztapalapa in the V Legislature of the Federal District, for a series of fraudulent acts. The former legislator cheated people to whom she offered jobs in the capital government in exchange for 80 thousand pesos.

Along with Ruiz Mendicuti, Willy Javier Canchola González was arrested, both accused of fraud. The investigations carried out so far indicate that Edith and Willy possibly met two women in Lerdo Street, Nonoalco Tlatelolco neighborhood, in the Cuauhtémoc mayor’s office, to receive from them cash with the promise of granting them jobs in the administration of the government of Mexico City.

After receiving two payments for 50 thousand and 80 thousand pesos from the victims, the detainees would have given the money to another man who accompanied them, who left the place with the cash. At the moment it is known that the former deputy “placed” three people in different positions of the current administration through this modus operandi; however, it is believed that he was able to scam at least 10 other people.
